I just wanted to say a few things about tonight’s session and what it means for the rest of the campaign. First, this is a learning experience for everybody. Nobody knows the system that well yet, so mistakes will happen on either side of the screen. I know it was kind of cheesy to just bring Robin back like we did, but we really didn’t have any more palatable alternative. However, that’s it.
The combat the happened last night underscores what’s always been a very important point in small D&D groups: The need for a really balanced party. Normally I’m comfortable just letting you guys do your own thing, but I really think the whole campaign will run smoother with just a few changes
1) Everyone (but mostly Frosh) needs to have high-ish scores in all defenses. If you need to, restat using the character builder to have a more defensible character. After playing around witht the character builder for a few days, it seems pretty easy to get all of them in the high 20’s-mid 30’s, depending on class.
2) Somebody else should have the ability to cast rituals just in case Einstein dies again. I know that one of you has a feat slot to spare, so one of the other party members need to hop on this.
3) I need to begin preparing more non-combat encounters (I’m thinking every 3rd or 4th encounter will be non-combat).
If we do both of these, I think 95% of the problems we ran into last night will never be encountered again.

It's propaly not a big deal but If you want to keep a realistic-ish setting, instead of just finding a potion of Life I can make another char. that is native to the current location we are at to help Frosh and Jame's charactors for the remaineder of the castle, and then Kord can pop VonEinstein back to life. I'm not saying I want to do this more than what happened, I'm just putting it out there.
Would you be okay with me kind of rebuilding VonEinstein, Tom? I feel like he's not as focused as I'd like him to be and wouldn't mind doing a bit more research to try and shift him even more toward being Planes-focused and place just a bit more emphasis on ritual casting as well.
My only problem with Ritual Casting would be that I would need ot be trained in Arcana and Religion to take the feat, and would have to actually have to use two feats to get Ritual Caster.
Mike - Is that REALLY a problem?
Robin - I've got no problem with that. You may want to think about multiclassing wizard or warlock. They have some nifty teleport powers.
I was thinking about this earlier today and I was wondering why James or Mike would need to learn ritual casting. I mean, Life is pretty useful but other than that I can't think of anything (this is just off the top of my head, mind you, so I could be mistaken) that would be important enough to make Mike or James use two feat slots and spend a trained skill on. If VonEinstein dies again in such a tricky spot where he can't be taken to Kord or there isn't an easy way to revive him then I will mostly just can him and start a new charactor.
This is not an argument against your suggestion or anything, I'm just actually curious since I'm new to 4E and you are much more knowledgeable in general with DnD than I am.
Also, if there's anything I learned from the past encounter is that I'm going to use healing powers a lot more often, even if it does mean that I won't be able to lay "teh smack down" on old elf bitches right away
Well, I'm not here to cause a dust-up either, and I'm not mandating things.
Without question, the most routinely disappointing aspect of character creation and leveling up has been selecting feats. Can't tell you how many times I saw freakin' Linguist on a character sheet in the last 2 months.
With that in mind, I simply assumed that feats were a minor enough thing to change and easily smooth over this hink.
I guess I was wrong. Sorry everybody. I certainly don't want to bully anyone into changing their character or cause any hard feelings.
I've also decided on what I want to do about Einstein. We're going to redline (ignore) everything that happened in the last 5 minutes or so of the last session.
Einstein died in battle.
Nobody found a potion of life.
Nobody has rested yet.
Nobody has left the library.
I'll be texting everyone the login details for our DDI account tonight.
